Dear Colleague,

With the fall term under way, I want to let you know about MLA financial
assistance for eligible non-tenure-track or unemployed members, regular
or
life members residing abroad, and advanced graduate student members. The
$300 grants partially reimburse expenses for travel to the MLA
convention,
which will be held in Philadelphia this year.

To find out if you are eligible to receive a grant and to learn how to
apply, see the links below:

Members may apply for assistance online or by mail. The deadline for
applications is 1 November 2009.

Financial assistance for travel to the convention is partially supported
by
member contributions to the Professional Education Assistance Funds and
the
Good Neighbor Fund. If you can, please make a donation to help those who
need assistance; your contribution is tax deductible.

The 2010 Globalization, Diversity and Education Conference is an interdisciplinary conference focusing on the issues of education and social justice in a global society. We conceive of education and pedagogy broadly to include media, community action, political activism, aesthetics and myriad forms of alternative educations. The conference provides a forum for engaging in conversation on the interrelationships among cultural pedagogies, ecopedagogies, global health, economic innovation, contemporary identity shaping, cultural sensitivity, cosmopolitanism, media literacy, social theory, and social justice. We welcome participation of researchers, educators, students, teachers, activists and community members. Proposals may address the themes of the conference from any perspective. Individual papers, panels, symposia, film/documentary screenings, exhibitions, poster sessions, and other creative endeavors are invited.

DEADLINE:  Proposals must be submitted no later than November 30, 2009.

SOUTHEAST PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION SOCIETY

February 19-20, 2010

University of Alabama at Huntsville

Meeting at the Holiday Inn in downtown Huntsville

The University of Alabama at Huntsville is proud to host the annual meeting of the Southeast Philosophy of Education Society, February 19^th and 20^th in Huntsville, Alabama.  SEPES has a long tradition of providing a friendly forum for dialogue and the exchange of philosophical ideas related to a broad variety of educational topics.

Topics might include, but are not limited to, the role of philosophy in clarifying the relationship of school to society; democracy and education; issues of diversity and commonality in education; educational policy; school reform; and the integration of theory and practice.

The Southeast Philosophy of Education Society welcomes papers on these or other issues. Colleagues and graduate students from fields other than philosophy who are concerned with educational topics are also encouraged to submit paper proposals. The presentation time for papers should be approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING PROPOSALS IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th,  2009. NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE WILL BE SENT DECEMBER 1^st.

Submissions may be sent electronically or by traditional mail. Please send a one page abstract or proposal and a cover letter stating your affiliation, postal address, email address, and phone number to the address below. If sending a proposal electronically please do so in one document with your last name in the file name.
